Phase 2 · Bauen mit Agenten

Phase 2 · Building with agents

13 · Prompting

You can give clear instructions with goal, context, and iteration.

Sag klar, was du willst und warum.

Kontext: Das Backend hat schon GET /feed.

Faustregel: vage rein → vage raus; konkret rein → konkret raus.

Kurz-Check

  1. Warum solltest du das „Warum“ mitgeben?
  2. Was heißt „klein starten“?

The agent is capable — your job is to aim it well. This one skill decides more about your result than anything else.

The idea

Say clearly what you want and why. "Add a delete button so people can remove old posts" beats "make it nicer". And start small — one step, then look.

Like a new colleague on the Instagram team: a vague brief ("make the feed better") yields vague results; a concrete one ("show the like count under each post, newest posts on top") yields exactly that.

How it works

A simple recipe:

A good prompt for our Instagram example:

"Goal: show the feed as a list of posts (image, author, caption, like count), newest on top. Why: it is the core of the app. Context: the backend already has GET /feed. Start with display only, no like feature yet."

How you steer it

The agent knows your project only from what it sees and what you say. Rule of thumb: vague in → vague out; concrete in → concrete out. Give standing rules ("simple three-tier, no extra libraries without asking") so you do not repeat them constantly.

Iterating beats the one perfect prompt: small steps can be corrected early. Give feedback like a good manager — describe the symptom, let the agent find the cause.

Ready-made sentences to reuse:

"Start small and show me the result before you continue."

"The like counter resets to 0 on reload. Find the cause and propose a fix."

"Do not add anything I did not ask for. Ask first if you think something extra is needed."

Common mistakes: too much at once; no context; "make it better" without a criterion; or accepting the first proposal unreviewed.

Quick check

  1. Why should you include the "why"?
  2. What does "start small" mean?
  3. How do you give good feedback on a bug?
Show answers
  1. It gives the agent the intent, so it decides unclear details in your direction.
  2. Build one step first, look, then refine — instead of everything at once.
  3. Describe the symptom concretely and leave the root-cause search to the agent.
